Our Mission - Why We Exist!

The Center for Women's Business Research provides data-driven knowledge that advances the economic, social, and political impact of women business owners and their enterprises. We do this by setting the national agenda; creating insight on the status and achievements of women business owners; altering perceptions about the economic viability and progress of women-owned enterprises; and driving awareness of the economic and social impact of this vital business sector.

CONGRATULATIONS TO IBM!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO IBM!!!!!!!

The CWBR network congratulates IBM on their announcement that Ginny Rometty will become the company's next CEO. IBM is a longstanding sponsor of CWBR and has supported us through their not only their dollars, but also their thought leadership. From IBM's announcement: "Ginni Rometty has successfully led several of IBM's most important businesses over the past decade-from the formation of IBM Global Business Services to the build-out of our Growth Markets Unit," Mr. Palmisano said. "But she is more than a superb operational executive. With every leadership role, she has strengthened our ability to integrate IBM's capabilities for our clients. She has spurred us to keep pace with the needs and aspirations of our clients by deepening our expertise and industry knowledge. Ginni's long-term strategic thinking and client focus are seen in our growth initiatives, from cloud computing and analytics to the commercialization of Watson. She brings to the role of CEO a unique combination of vision, client focus, unrelenting drive, and passion for IBMers and the company's future. I know the board agrees with me that Ginni is the ideal CEO to lead IBM into its second century."

Thank you once again to all participants in our latest W-Biz Insight survey. October is our regular month for the bi-annual Key Bank Confidence Index and we'll be back to you shortly with results.

Please note our NEW FEATURE of our website - the Research To Action blog. In order to advance our mission of providing data-driven knowledge, we welcome our CWBR Action to Research Correspondent who will regularly review a current research project and share thoughts on how this can actually be used by business owners, service providers, policy makers, and so forth. Our first blog focuses on that old but enduring beast - fear of failure.

Two particular congratulations are in order this month as well. The WIPP conference provided a great venue for talking about the hard policy issues facing women entrepreneurs and the 5th Annual Springboard Enterprises Winners' Circle Awards Dinner was a celebration of success and role models for us all.

It's going to be a big finish to 2011 for CWBR. Please watch for our release of our first global report in partnership with GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor). We'll also release the latest version of our Key Fact Cards - first time with global numbers! And finally, we'll close out the year with a December 7th event to launch the next stage of our Accelerating the Growth of Businesses Owned by Women of Color.
